“You gotta pass it on, story”.

Return To Country

“I learnt more from my old people than I ever learnt at school.”

“They have to be all together, equal these circles (people, culture, country).

“They are all important. The community comes together here.”

Each year TMPAC and Mantjiljarra Yulparirra support family groups from Wiluna to embark on significant on-Country journeys to explore, revisit and share sites and stories from their ancestors. Return To Country trips are important for ensuring the continuation of Wiluna Martu culture and the passing down of knowledge between generations. The activities of these trips are designed to:

  • Maintain oral histories,

  • Manage heritage,

  • Maintain archives of knowledge,

  • Map sites of significance to Martu,

  • Pass language between generations,

  • Ensure healthy Country through the use of traditional Indigenous land management techniques.
