Using Our Information

Using Our information

When you use TMPAC information, there are some expectations that respect Indigenous knowledge and information.

1. That you acknowledge TMPAC as the source of information and include Tarlka Matuwa Piarku Aboriginal Corporation in the acknowledgment section of your published report/paper/thesis.

Why? We can then record that our data is being used, and its origins respected. Consequently, we will be able to continue to provide you and your colleagues with information and data into the future. Data will remain the property of TMPAC as the data custodian, and be shared only for the purpose of the agreed project.

We ask that parties acknowledge and agree that the preservation and protection of Aboriginal Cultural Heritage, as well as respect for and adherence to the Wiluna People’s law, custom and cultural protocols, are a fundamental element of your project. Furthermore:

(a) the collection and/or recording of Aboriginal Cultural Intellectual Property will only be undertaken by researchers or other stakeholders following the free, prior, informed and written consent of Wiluna People or TMPAC;

(b) all Aboriginal Cultural Intellectual Property either provided by TMPAC, or collected or recorded by the researchers or other stakeholders remains the property of TMPAC on behalf of the Wiluna People; and

(c) TMPAC may, at any time, designate in writing to researchers or other stakeholders that certain Aboriginal Cultural Intellectual Property is Confidential Information. Researchers or other stakeholders agree that if Aboriginal Cultural Intellectual Property has been collected or recorded and has been designated by the TMPAC to be Confidential Information, the designated Confidential Information will be returned to TMPAC and must not be used by the researchers or other stakeholders.

2. That you understand that data collected on Traditional Owner country requires their permission to use as a respect to their culture and traditions.

 Why? TMPAC recognises the importance and sensitivity of data collected on Matuwa Kurrara Kurrara and Lake Carnegie as the country of the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the Wiluna Native Title. Some data and samples were collected for use by Traditional Owners and Custodians and so its use will require their permission too.

3. That you send TMPAC copies of papers, books, book chapters, and conference papers etc. that have been created using any of our data as soon as possible after their acceptance.

Why? This allows us to easily track the use of our information. It also enables us to add your citation to our website which potentially increases the exposure of your research.
